About Greg Tobler...
Greg Tobler started his formal training at SUNY Fredonia and continues it in the real world. He received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Sound Recording Technology while at Fredonia where he studied with professors and professional sound engineers Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips), Armand Petri (Goo Goo Dolls), and Bernd Gottinger.
After receiving his degree, Tobler began his professional recording career at Allaire Studios (Shokan, NY) building and working in the Great Hall Studio. Facilities there included an SSL 9000 J Series and Neve 8068 recording consoles, multiple Studer 827’s for 48 tracks of analog or 48 channels of Protools. While installing the Great Hall studio at Allaire, Tobler worked alongside John Stoyrk (of the Walters/Storyk Design Group) and George Augsberger, two of the worlds best studio designers and accoustician. Once the Great Hall Studio was completed, Allaire Studios was hailed as a world class multi-room facility able to accommodate the largest sessions and major label artists. Tobler worked on many sessions while at Allaire including Norah Jones, David Bowie, Joan Baez, Jack DeJohnette, and Mercury Rev.
After Allaire Greg designed and carried out the upgrade to the famous Buffalo NY studio, Audio Magic. He rebuilt, recapped and cleaned the DDA AMR24 and rewired all of the outboard racks. Once the overhaul to the studio was complete Tobler teamed up with legendary drummer/producer Gary Mallaber (Steve Miller Band, Van Morrison, etc…) to co-produce and engineer Vermont’s up and coming band The Grift. Also while in Buffalo, Tobler worked at Crosswater Digital Media as a recording and mastering engineer for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He recorded world famous violinist Joshua Bell and mastered his performance, which was later broadcast on NPR across the country. Also while at Crosswater, Tobler recorded and edited voice-overs for radio spots.
Next Greg moved to Albany NY and began his freelance career. He worked out of a few different studios, primarily Sound Check Republic and Cotton Hill Studios as well as his then small home studio. Albany is where he started his A2 career. Teaming with veteran engineer Dave Cook, Tobler was involved with a live recording of Todd Rundgren. He has since worked with Florence + the Machine and Breaking Benjamin, recording and mixing live concert performances.
Seeking to be closer to New York City he moved to Stamford CT and opened his own Pro Tools HD 5.1 studio where he still does music but has branched out into TV and Film sessions as well. With an impressive gear list Tobler either works out of his own studio, or goes to a studio and brings what he needs to augment their gear. He also has a mobile recording package for live concerts and for clients who want to build their own studio in a location of their choosing. Always looking for new projects Tobler is eager to talk to you about your project.
